LATE ENTRIES accepted up until 09h30 on Sunday 28th Feb but will incur a time penalty. Entries will be limited to 50 starters. We need 5 or 6 marshal’s to manage the busy road intersections for the duration of the cycle race. Please contact the office urgently. Junior Training resumes at 09h30 on Sunday. We wish our Alfred’s members good luck with the Western Cape Rowing Champs regatta in Elgin on Saturday. Dear Sailors and Friends, Apologies for the technical glitch in our Triathlon Newsletter earlier today. Please see the NOTICE OF RACE here: Notice_of_Race_Bone_of_Contention_2016.pdf The walk/run distance is 2 laps total ±4km; Juniors under 15 years do 1 lap ±2km The cycle distance is 3 times for adults and 2 times for Juniors under 15 years ±15 & 10km respectively THIS WEEKEND In the club office this coming Friday (Judy Alison), Saturday and Sunday (Marina Favit) as Ron, Anna and Kathryn will be in Mykonos. The Tuck Shop will be open on Saturday morning from 09h00 to 12h00. Junior training to resume as normal on Sunday from 09h30 and club racing to start at 11h00. The galley & tuckshop will be open with Rochelle serving delicious meals on Sunday. LAST WEEKEND A few members came to partake in our first TGIF draw last Friday! The member drawn (Andrew McFarlane) was not at the club. The R500 will roll over to our next TGIF – date to be announced. Don’t miss out next time! Dear Sailors and Friends, Sunsail/Moorings Club Champs – 13 & 14 February This season’s club championships will be held over this weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Saturday racing to start at 14h30, 3 races, and Sunday at 10h00. Live music is arranged on Saturday evening, sailors get your free drink ticket! Rochelle’s kitchen & tuck shop will be open for the weekend. Prize giving and the wonderful Sunsail/Moorings Draw to take place after the last race on Sunday! We are still slightly short on Bridge and Safety Boat crew so if you can help it will be greatly appreciated! T.G.I.F. tomorrow: 12th February 2016 Members, come on down to ZVYC for our second TGIF! Bring & Braai after your sail (fires can be lit) or buy curry & rice from galley for R50. The Upper Deck Bar will be open with iPod music! Come and enjoy a sunset sail after a long week of work and catch up with friends! Bring your boats down to be ready for the Sunsail/Moorings Club Champs which will be on Saturday. Dear Sailors and Friends, Obituaries 2016 has not been a good year for the club so far. We have recently lost some great members. It is with sadness that we inform you of Barry Barbour’s passing on Sunday 31st January. Barry had been ill for sometime now and moved on peacefully on Sunday evening. Barry’s funeral/memorial date has not been announced yet and we will let you know as soon as possible. Barry, as you know, was an Olympic sailor in the Flying Dutchman Class and a champion Finn sailor. Beva Runciman (mother of Alex) passed away a couple of weeks ago. Condolences to the families. LAST WEEKEND Summer series round 2 continued with a fleet of 8 boats. Congratulations Neil Armitage the winner, and we welcomed the Zeekoevlei Sailing Centre who sailed a sonnet in the racing. Almost 30 kids on the water today at Junior Training! We got 9 new sailors on the simulator to do some land sailing. Then on the water with a saftey rope! Intermediates were improving their skills – they’re almost there to start racing regattas! The A fleet has also grown this term. They’re training hard as 2 of them have made the SA team to sail Optimist World’s & Africa’s A great day sailing!   Alfred Rowing Club News! Well done to Brian Christie and Richard Moolenschot on their victory at VLC in Joburg over the weekend! They came home with 2 gold medals each!!
