Dear Members and Friends, Bishops had a very successful sail training weekend at the club last weekend with SailPro and the boys partook in our Spring Series on the Sunday! Our junior training had a full fleet of A, B and Intermediates as well as Dabchick training. A very eventful, exciting weekend had by all. It is the Cape Town International Boat Show this weekend. THIS WEEKEND UCT Rebel Tour Reunion – Saturday 13h00 to 17h00 @ ZVYC with Alfred’s “The Rebel tour happened in 1987, when sanctions prevented the South African crews from touring. The UCT crew decided to race at Henley Royal Regatta in London but under Thames Rowing Club. This year is the 30th year reunion and the crew wants to hop into boats and race our current 1st crew. We are making an event out of it and we are trying to get our club down to come watch the racing. Please bring meat and and some money as we will be selling Pimms, so it will be a very festive afternoon. (Tuck shop & Upper Deck open) Please pass this on to your members and we hope to see you there! Dear Members and Friends, Quiver Outdoor Gear Sponsored Regatta Sunday was a fun day with Kevin Gaynor of Quiver Outdoor Gear who sponsored the day. We had 4 races, 2 morning & 2 afternoon. With 27 entries the Optimist fleet was the biggest. We also have Spring Series on Sunday, first race 11h30 and 2 PM races. Please enter at the office on the day. We are always looking for volunteers for bridge and safety. Dear Members and Friends, Laser Nationals – Aeolians Club Vaal Dam Well done to Alistair Keytel coming 4th out of 18 entries in the Laser Standard class, and Cullen Keytel, 2nd with Sarah-Jane Deary in 4th for the Laser Radial class out of 20 entries. Cullen and Sarah-Jane and other youngsters from our club have been part of the SA Sailing High Performance coaching team; we would like to thank sponsors of them which are RaceAhead and DCAS (Department of Culture and Sport of the WC Government) for their assistance and sponsorship of these youngsters. Finn Nationals – Swartvlei, Sedgefield 9 of our club members took part in the regatta which had 35 entries. Top sailors were; Paul Allardice coming in 2nd, Greg Davis 3rd and Morgan Evans 4th! Dear Members and Friends, LAST WEEKEND We had over 50 young sailors, including beginners, on our sail training sleepover weekend from Friday to Sunday. The wind was very strong on Saturday but the high performance division run by RaceAhead continued to do their training. On Sunday the weather was ideal with a light South-Easter with all participants on the water enjoying themselves. We also managed to attract new members to the club. THIS WEEKEND Safe travels and fair winds to our members participating in the Finn (Swartvlei) and Laser (Aeolians) National Regattas taking part this weekend. The club will be closed on Saturday and Monday. Members still have access to grounds and toilets in the alley to the right of the braai area. If you do not have change room keys, please arrange to collect during office hours at R40 a key. Sunday – Heritage Day; The clubhouse will be open from 09h00 to 14h00, tuck shop open from 09h00 to noon. There is no planned club racing, members are encouraged to sail, gate starts are great and the buoys will be in the water. Dear Members and Friends, THIS WEEKEND We have over 40 participants in the youth camp and today is the last day to register: please find the Indemnity/Entry Form HERE. See our website for more information: http://zvyc.co.za/event/training-camp/ For the training camp kids on Friday night 19h00 we have Olympic Rower, Ursula Grobler, chatting about athletic goals and Saturday night at 20h00 we have 29er World Champion, Alex Burger, being interviewed by Olympian Roger Hudson.  Please remember to pack sleeping & training gear (mattress, pillow, blankets etc also, don’t forget to pack hats, sunblock, sunglasses, wet-suit, warm clothing etc for your child) as the kids are sleeping in the clubhouse. Parents are encouraged to join us before prize giving on Sunday which starts at 14h00 for Novice and 16h00 for advanced.
