Learn to Sail

Zeekoevlei Yacht Club offers a number of different options for people to learn to sail.

Calling all children aged 8 to 15 years. Join us every Sunday morning from 09h00 to Learn to Sail.
Courses run:
January to April
September to end November / early December

Our 3 month courses offer children the opportunity to learn to sail whether a beginner or a “weathered” sailor looking for advanced racing techniques.

Children are taught on an Optimist which is a small, safe and simple international class of boat. Children that excel in sailing the Optimist would have the chance to try out for the South African teams competing at the African and/or World Optimist Championships.
And for those that just want to sail & have fun – we cater for them as well!
ZVYC has a number of Optimist dinghies for children to hire – no need to have your own to start out!

from approximately the age of 15,  the youth learn to sail on larger dinghies such as 420s or Dabchicks.

Zeekoevlei has produced quite a number of world class yachtsmen, many of whom started out sailing Optimists, and have represented South Africa in international regattas; like Optimist Worlds, Youth Worlds & Olympics.

Come and be a part of this wonderful sailing family – the benefits are endless!
