Patron-in-Chief: Chief of the Navy
President of SA Sailing: Mike Robinson
President: Martin Vanlierde

Lara Keytel Dugas — Commodore

Born and raised at Zeekoevlei, Lara began sailing optimists at a very young age and has remained a passionate yachtswoman ever since. Although she also excelled in rowing—representing Alfred’s Rowing Club and captaining UCT’s women’s crew—her focus today is on competitive sailing. Lara regularly competes in the ILCA division and sails on a MUMM36 out of RCYC.

Martin Vanlierde — President

A past Commodore and now President, Martin is a well-known oarsman and a longstanding figure in the South African rowing community. Originally from Belgium, he began rowing in 2004 and has competed in numerous major events, most recently participating in the 2023 World Masters in Pretoria (Tshwane).

Pete Wilson — Treasurer

Pete is a nationally ranked yachtsman and has been a ZVYC member since 1980. A regular competitor in the ILCA 7 division, he brings decades of financial and competitive sailing experience. His professional career has taken him across South Africa, Singapore, and the United States, adding significant depth to his role as Treasurer.

Rudi Fokkens — Sailing Commodore

Originally from Durban, Rudi moved to Cape Town in 2022 to join North Sails. With a background spanning dinghies, catamarans, and keelboats, he is passionate about team sailing and brings valuable experience from youth, dinghy, university, and SAS committees. Rudi can often be found racing at RCYC aboard a Pacer 27 with his sister or taking on longer offshore races aboard Naledi with Felix.

Iris Henkel — Rowing Commodore

Iris, originally from Germany, moved to Cape Town in 2006. Her rowing journey began at the age of three, accompanying her mother in gig boats. She has since competed in various lightweight events, including the single scull, pair, and coxless four. Iris joined ARC in 2018 and, when not rowing, dedicates her time to a football-focused NGO in Hout Bay.
