Time: 18h30 – Meet & Mingle | 19h00 – Talk Begins

Prepare for an unforgettable evening as Prof. Bob Baigrie takes us on an extraordinary journey aboard the historic tall ship, Bark Europa—a magnificent 115-year-old vessel.

About the Talk

Set sail with Dr. Bob, as he’s known aboard, as he recounts his three remarkable expeditions to Antarctica since 2015. Serving as both ship’s doctor and certified Antarctica guide, Bob navigated treacherous waters from Punta Arenas in Chilean Patagonia, through the Magellan Straits and Beagle Passage, and even spent one memorable Boxing Day picnicking on Cape Horn, beneath the watchful gaze of an Andean condor.

His tales bring to life unexpected encounters with pack ice, the dramatic mid-sea repair of a broken mainsail yardarm, and an awe-inspiring retracing of Shackleton’s legendary voyage in the tiny whaler, James Caird.

Illustrated with breathtaking photographs of shipboard life, Antarctic landscapes, and incredible wildlife—including birds, seals, whales, and orcas—this talk is not to be missed!

About the Speaker

Prof. Bob Baigrie is a distinguished retired surgeon, passionate adventurer, and dedicated advocate for social justice. His explorations extend beyond the sea to multi-day treks like the Rim of Africa and the ascent of Uganda’s Mountains of the Moon. A gifted storyteller, photographer, and poet, Bob also has a flair for imaginative cooking and plays Masters hockey—all while keeping an audience enthralled with his vivid tales.
