Dear Sailors and Friends,
On Friday night, the Alfred’s Rowing Club, invited Liz Day to give a very interesting talk on the Vlei Origins, History and Water Quality. It was very well attended with many Q&A’s afterwards. Thanks Liz!
On Saturday and Sunday, our Sunsail Club Champs were sailed in difficult conditions (strong winds) with 3 races on Saturday and 2 races on Sunday. Prize Giving was followed shortly after the final race and lunch. Our bar was busy on Saturday night with live music from Marelyn Mason. and later whilst the Stormers game was on. By 10pm the club was quiet.

This Weekend
The ZVYC will be hosting a community get together this Friday, 20th February, in the upstairs bar to celebrate our Ramsar Status. We will be starting at 18h30 with bar open and Rochelle’s Kitchen to serve up Wraps and Burgers for dinner. R10 entrance per person. We will have a welcome from our Commodore Mark Thompson, as well as a talk by Dalton Gibbs from City of Cape Town. All welcome.

The race will be sailed this Sunday again. We have yet another Magnum of High Constantia Champagne to be won as well as a bottle of Sparkling Grape Juice for the Junior Winner. The Champagne Breakfast was a hit, so do join us. The race will start at 11 am to enable you to enjoy a leisurely breakfast from 9am!
Junior Training continues at the Club this Sunday from 10h00.
The first Sunday in March (1st March) is starter cup races in home bay. All class starts handicap times taken Portsmouth Handicap ratings. The second Sunday (8th March) will be a series of slalom races also in Home Bay. The combined results of both weekends will determine the winner of the MDM Series.TRIATHLON -Bone of Contention
Start training now for the ZVYC Triathlon on Sunday 15th March. Three Legs: running, cycling and rowing/sailing. You can be a one man team doing all 3 disciplines; or form a team with a single person for each! A handicap system with experience and age will be incorporated.
We are pleased to announce that Craig Latigan will be running a sail shop every weekend on Sunday’s at the club for the rest of this season. We are sure it will prove popular and would certainly like him back for next season.
