Message from Heidi Burger and Team ZVYC:
“Apart from being demasted and therefore only sailing 3 out of the 4 races, ZVYC Team Tiletoria had a great regatta! The first completed race was sailed on Monday in a light and shifty westerly off Granger Bay, where we achieved a decent 10th position. The second day of racing started us off in an awesome South-Easter of about 20 knots, gusting 25 knots. The team was sailing well in the hectic wind until our mast fell down at the 2nd bottom mark. The girls showed superb seamanship in getting the sails down and mast back onto the boat in a competent and calm way with jokes still flying as we were towed in! Amazingly, nothing else was damaged (save the mast) and the only injury was a slight neck strain of Nicola’s. It was a mad rush to get the new mast up (borrowed from RCYC Academy) and set up by the next race on Wednesday. But with the help from our superb coach, Taariq Jacobs, we managed just in time! The race on the Wednesday turned out to be our best race of the regatta as we achieved a well sailed and closely contested 9th place. The racing was called off on Thursday due to the fog bank, which gave the team a chance to breathe before a very windy final race on Friday that dropped us down to 12th position instead of lifting us up to 10th as we were hoping. It was however, still a well sailed race in very windy conditions. All in all, it was a great regatta with a lot being learnt by a very new team. We hope to come back next year with a stronger team and an even stronger mast! Thank you to Tiletoria, Province Lighting, The Design Company, Vida e Caffé  and of course Zeekoevlei Yacht Club for the support. We were definitely the best looking boat on the water; having the most amount of fun if nothing else!”
