BIG EVENT – MDM SERIES Round 1 (Slalom racing)
The MDM Sponsored Racing Days this extremely popular series is about to happen soon, the series will be held over 2 weekends  Sun 11th October (Slalom Racing) & Sun  10th Apr 2016 (Starters Racing),  this is what we are planning:
1st Round Slalom racing
2 rows of 5 or 6 buoys will b set up showing a windward/leeward course in front of the Club. Teams will seeded and balanced by the Sailing Committee, we are anticipating each team will comprise of  3 Optimists, 3 Sonnets, 4 Laser Radials, 2 Laser Standards and 4 Finns (16 boats per team).
The course will be Start, Boat on Boat, beat up wind and return to the Start/Finish Gybing/tacking around each buoy, starting gaps at 3 mins. You must gybe at each Buoy downwind, cannot just sail downwind by the lee to avoid gybing. Coloured vests will be supplied to help identify the teams.
As usual the generous sponsorship of Keith Morris and MDM will give prizes to the winning team after the 2nd weekend and a “free lunch” to all competitors and helpers each Sunday.
What we need to know is whether you will be participating to enable the organisation of this great event. PLEASE email us NOW manager@zvyc.co.za
Incidentally, if the internet weather forecasts show strong winds the events will be swopped with a Starters Cup being sailed 1st.

Hi Crew, Some interesting reading about rowing faster, don’t get too hung up on the technical stuff but it’s worth a read. Captain Kirk 2002 Moving Rowers

Lost Laser Rudder
All Laser sailors from the Southern Charter Grand Slam, we are looking for a Laser Rudder that belongs to Di Meek. Please have a look to see if you may have accidentally packed away the incorrect rudder. It was last seen in the open boat parking area. Should you find it, please return it back to us here at the club. Many thanks!

See you down at the club this weekend!

Best wishes,
on behalf of ZVYC,
Anna, Kathryn & Ron
