Story Waves: Tales & Talks from Zeekoevlei
Everyone is welcome at Story Waves! This free monthly event focuses on stories of the sea and city. It happens again on Friday, 31 October 2025 at the Zeekoevlei Yacht Club. Our guest speaker this month is Cape Town actress, writer and theatre director, Megan Choritz.

Megan Choritz is a multi-dimensional artist who is funny and provocative in equal measures. She’s also measured and extremely serious about the things she most cares about. Megan was shortlisted this year for the inaugural DALRO Can Themba Merit Award. She will be talking to Liesl Jobson about her story, ‘Murmur Becomes a Wave’, which appears in the prize-winning anthology When Water Wants To (Wits Press, 2025).
This collection contains ten emerging South African authors whose short stories provoke, inspire, challenge and entertain with bold storytelling and keen social commentary.
About the speaker
Megan graduated from UCT in 1986 and worked as an actress before starting her own improvisation troupe in Cape Town. She has written and co-written numerous plays and musicals, performed and directed theatre, and she improvises and teaches improv. She also writes short stories, poems and children’s stories. Her plays The Tent, Drive with Me and Clouds Like Waves have achieved critical acclaim.
Her debut novel Lost Property (MF Books, 2023) and her children’s book The Big Bird Battle(Penguin Struik, 2020) have both received critical acclaim. Megan’s flagship project, Shakespeare to Gaza, reflects her commitment to integrate theatre and solidarity.
