ZVYC News 19 October 2017
Dear Members and Friends,
Bishops had a very successful sail training weekend at the club last weekend with SailPro and the boys partook in our Spring Series on the Sunday! Our junior training had a full fleet of A, B and Intermediates as well as Dabchick training. A very eventful, exciting weekend had by all.
It is the Cape Town International Boat Show this weekend. Have you volunteered? Please contact Karen (karens@sailing.org.za) should you be able to help (it’s not too late).
THIS WEEKEND
UCT Rebel Tour Reunion – Saturday 13h00 to 17h00 @ ZVYC with Alfred’s
“The Rebel tour happened in 1987, when sanctions prevented the South African crews from touring. The UCT crew decided to race at Henley Royal Regatta in London but under Thames Rowing Club. This year is the 30th year reunion and the crew wants to hop into boats and race our current 1st crew. We are making an event out of it and we are trying to get our club down to come watch the racing.
Please bring meat and and some money as we will be selling Pimms, so it will be a very festive afternoon. (Tuck shop & Upper Deck open)
Please pass this on to your members and we hope to see you there!
Yours in Rowing
Georgia Sabio”
Junior Training – 09h00
Our A & B Opti Fleet will be at the Cape Town Boat Show, however, Novice and Intermediates will still have training from 09h00 to 13h00 as well as Dabchick training. The forecast is looking great at this stage with a southerly up to 11 knots. There is no organized club racing, and Spring Series will resume next weekend.
Also on Sunday, we have SACS rowing open day from 08h00 to 11h00. SACS are introducing new scholars to rowing with a presentation in the Barry Burton Barbour room.

OTHER NEWS
Optimist Sailing SA
A successful Western Cape Optimist Association AGM was held at RCYC.
Thank you to the past committee for a successful year.
Welcome to the new committee:
Chairman: Duncan Ross
Deputy Chairlady: Stefania Falcon
Treasurer: Gavin Ashwell
Secretary: Karen Slater
May this team continue growing the class from strength to strength.
Lastly, the club’s two 420’s are in need of rigging, spinnaker, trapeze, etc, any members who have any bits and bobs lying around to donate, or more importantly some of your time in getting the boats in racing trim again; it will be greatly appreciated. The 420’s, we hope, are making a superb comeback at ZVYC, as well as our Dabchick fleet!
Best Wishes,
on behalf of ZVYC,
Ron & Kathryn
