ZVYC News 22 February 2018

Dear Members and Friends,

The club internet connection is still intermittent and we have now applied for a fibre connection. This should happen within the next week. We have started invoicing for the Special Levy (20% of your membership fee), and a big thank you to those members who have already paid. If you have not yet read the Commodore and Treasurer letter regarding the special levy, please click HERE.
(The WiFi connection is also intermittent)

LAST WEEKEND

The ZVYC MDM sponsored SLALOM Event was a HIT!!

Message from our Rear Commodore Sailing, Millicent Keen: “It was a wonderful day of sailing with good junior and senior fleets. Two races were held in the morning, the first race with full length beats covering the length of the vlei in a mild Northerly breeze.  The second race was held in a westerly at the southern end of the vlei.
The skippers briefing for the slalom event was held during the lunch break.  The sailors were split into four evenly matched teams each of which covered all the classes, with juniors and seniors together. Brevan Thompson did a running commentary from the upper deck for the spectators whilst the team captains sailed alongside the competitors on the course shouting  encouragement and advice to their team members.
The prize giving elicited rousing applause when the bundle of money came out.  Listening to the ‘war stories’ afterwards on the lawns and in the pub area, everyone thought it was a very successful event.”

Thank you to MDM / Raymarine for a FANTASTIC event!

Well done to Lance Curtis winning the Musto Bag luck draw and Mia Stock who walked away with R1000 draw!!  The morning fleet racing results are on our website, click HERE.. Well done to Cullen Keytel for winning the Open Class and to Ariane (all the way from Tahiti) taking first in the Opti class! See our Facebook page for the pictures.
The winning team was Cullen Keytel, Shane Joseph, Amir Yaghya, Dean Carstens, Theo & Mia Stock and Ariane Puttergill.

Well done to Karen Slater (Waterside Manager) for completing the SA Sailing Senior Instructor Course in Mossel Bay last weekend and this will bring ZVYC one step closer to being a SA Sailing Accredited Centre!
