LAST WEEKEND
The North Sails sponsored Club Champs was a fantastic weekend with 61 entries and wind to challenge all our members and competitors! Saturday saw much capsizing and fast racing, compared to Sunday, less wind and more skill involved!
A BIG thank you to Rick Nankin of North Sails for sponsoring the wonderful prizes as well as the champs! And also to thank ALL our volunteers (25 in total) in safety and committee boat who made the racing possible! Lastly a big thank you to Rochelle and her team for her delicious catering for all our hungry sailors and families 🙂
The results are on our website (see them HERE, thank you Nicki Stock) and please see our Facebook page for the images (thank you Karen Slater). The barrel tog-bag draw was won by Ross Mackinnon, well done Ross!

Alfred Rowing Club News
The first rowing regatta of the season saw four intrepid Alfred’s ladies set off under dark skies with wild wind driving them along the coast road. As the sky lightened, the dawn clouds looked like a jellyfish – the way we felt – and a dragon, blowing it into the next life. We had entered in the quad, doubles and singles events – the latter being a particular source of nerves for the two novices in the crew.
Getting to the start line offered a substantial challenge with white horses crashing over the boats amplified by the wake from the umpires boats racing up and down. Happily, we returned with medals for the doubles (Cassar & Jobson) and the quad (Jobson, Cassar, Dugmore and Smith-Marrs).
We were helped most graciously by the Grassy Park team of Thaakir Sulayman, Kaamil Adams and Duncan Hager, who de-rigged, packed and helped us to rig. The youngsters who raced were our cheerleaders, helping us carry our boats to the water, assisting in other ways, and improving the weather with their sunny cheer and good humour. Huge gratitude to Jacques du Plessis for towing our boats.
Liesl Jobson
Alfred’s Ladies Captain
