Alfred Rowing Club – Western Cape Rowing Championships, Elgin
Alfred and Grassy Park competed in the Western Cape Rowing Championships at Elgin this past weekend, The weather was perfect and although the dam level rather low, which resulted in the course having to be shortened, the officials of Western Cape Rowing hosted an amazing event. Grassy Park unfortunately had to miss one race due to equipment shortages but achieved a 4th place in the U15A single sculls, a 2nd place in the U19 fourth division single sculls as well as a  2nd place in the U19 third division single sculls. The U19 quad achieved an impressive 1st place in the second division quads.
Alfreds entered both senior and masters events with Duncan and Julia making a good account of themselves in the Senior B single sculls, Liesl Jobson rowed an impressive three events and achieved a 2nd place in the Women’s masters single sculls and then teaming up with Julia Du Toit to race against the ARC Novice men and beating them over the 1000m. Liesl’s third event saw her and Haylee team up to row into an impressive 2nd place in the Women’s masters double. The Men’s Masters doubles was a dual between two ARC crews and won by De Nicola and Myburgh. The Masters Single Sculls was won by Lionel De Nicola in fine style. At this point Captain Kirk would like to point out that it is not a good idea to practice capsize techniques during a championship race!!
Cheers
Captain Kirk!
