ZVYC News 5 May 2016
Dear Sailors and Friends,
LAST WEEKEND
Alfred Rowing Club – SA Champs in Roodeplaat, 30 April – 1 May 2016
Alfred RC have just returned from a very successful SA National Championship held at Roodeplaat Dam, Pretoria. After preparing well and spending many hours training for this event ARC was rewarded with achieving some very good results. In the Senior Division Julia Du Toit rowed like a star in the Women’s B single sculls and after wining her heat convincingly went on to obtain a very impressive second place. Duncan Heagar competed in the Senior C men’s event and also won his heat and achieved a credible 3rd place in the final. Liesl Jobson and Tweet Brummer accomplished themselves well in the double and went on to achieve 2nd and 3rd place in the Women’s Masters single event.
Peter Baird had a strong row in the masters 3rd Division single scull against a fellow member, Abdussabur Kirke and they achieved a 1st and 2nd place respectively and Tommy Brummer coming in 3rd place in the second race. Dane Cherry and Peter Baird also came 2nd in the Masters 2nd Division double scull with Kirk and Adler and Vanlierde and De Nicola coming 4th and 5th in the 1st Division respectively. The ARC 2nd Division Quad had a tough race and finished 6th.
The Masters 1st Division coxless four was won by ARC in a new course record. The Masters 1st Division Eight was also won by ARC and was definitely the highlight of the championship for the club as many hours of preparation paid off.
Thank you to everyone for their enthusiasm and support.
