ALFRED’S ROWING NEWS
The highlight of the year has undoubtedly been the National Championships last weekend, with the standout performance being Richard Moolenschot’s Gold in the 1st division single Sculls. It just goes to show that hard work and perseverance do get rewarded!
The rest of the club performed admirably, with second places in the Masters 4- 1st Div, (Gavin,Andrew,Lionel,Jaco), 2nd Division double (Martin and Jaco), 3rd Division Single Scull (Jaco), 3rd Division quad (Iris,Liesl,Tweet,Liz Sparg) and 3rd Div double (Emily and Liz Sparg)
We also achieved 3rd places in Mast Woman 1st Div (Iris,Liesl,Daggie,Estelle), 2nd div Mixed doubles (Gavin & Iris) and Tommie and Tweet in 3rd division Mixed doubles.
It was a great regatta and it was wonderful to see the quality of rowing on display with an number of world champions competing at the regatta.
Our senior rowers added great spirit and support to the Alfreds crew. Congratulations to Tessa Preen placed fifth in the B division single final. Duncan Hager placed first in his B division single heat and with Thaakir Sulayman, placed 5th in the C division double final. Tessa and Isabella Cupido placed fourth in the B division double. It is heartening to have seen these rowers, who are activie in promoting development rowing too, participate so competently. We look forward to many good things to come from them in the future.
