Alfred Rowing Club News
The 27th of March saw the rowing of the 162nd Oxford vs Cambridge Varsity Boat Race. Cambridge men won by two and a half lengths and Oxford women won comfortably over Cambridge women, who survived an almost sinking, to complete the race in a determined show of courage and effort. If you missed it you would do well to watch the BBC clip of the race.
Every year to mark this event Cape Coastal invite Alfred RC to race against them on the boat race day. This year due to weather the race was moved to the 28th when fair weather prevailed and a great days racing was enjoyed. Alfred women won against CCR and for the second year CCR men beat Alfred. Alfred junior crews combined with Grassy Park and held off the Alfred second crew for a comfortable win. Drinks and a braai at the FBYC finished off a wonderful day.
Alfred RC and Grassy Park will be attending SA Championships at the end of April so training and crew selection is underway.
Regards
Capt Kirk

OTHER NEWS
If any Laser sailors would like to sail at Swartvlei, Sedgefield this week coming Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (30th March – 1st April) we have the RS Tera National Selections which is also an Open Invitational.
A great chance to sail at Swartvlei and as the RS Tera is mostly a feeder into the Laser class it would be great to have some “big brothers/sisters” on the water.
All welcome and there are cash prizes for the Open fleet too.
Thanks
Alan Keen
